How does collecting and tasting maple syrup in the snowy Japanese forest, sound?

In this program, you will snowshoe through the snowy forest with your guide to collect the sap from a maple tree. Once the sap has been collected, the group returns to the designated place to camp for the day with bonfire on the snow.

The original maple syrup collected is boiled and drizzled on pancakes that use pesticide-free locally harvested Uonuma Koshihikari rice flour.

A dedicated guide will accompany, so anyone can enjoy the snowy mountains in winter with peace of mind.

Experience a new way to enjoy the winter forest while warming up to a bonfire at the day camp.

Snow boots are available to rent. Please let us know your shoe size in the remarks column of the application. (The rental fee is included in the tour fee.)

tour info Detail

Highlights

  • Wearing snowshoes and collect maple sap in the woods.
  • Enjoy personally collected maple syrup with freshly made rice flour pancakes.
  • A dedicated guide is available so spending a day at the snowy forest and day camping is safe.
Itinerary

The group will meet in front of the Yabukozaki Campsite at 1:30 pm. (Please contact us in advance if you wish for a pick up and drop off from/to Matsudai Station.)

Change to snowshoes and go out with the guide to collect the sap of the maple tree, which is the source of maple syrup.

Though it looks like there are only snow and trees in the forest, if you look carefully, you can actually feel the activities of various creatures and plants around.

The dedicated guide will guide you carefully, so please make various discoveries!

A tree called “Itaya maple” protects itself by producing a lot of sap so that it will not freeze when the temperature is low in winter.

Divide the harvested sap and boil it to make maple syrup. Is the taste of the sap in its original form sweet?

When you come back from the forest, make a fire on the snow and have a day camp. Boil down the sap, bake pancakes, and brew tea … and you’re all set!

Drizzle maple syrup on the luxurious pancake made from pesticide-free local Uonuma Koshihikari rice flour.

This will surely be a delicious taste you have never experienced!

If the weather is nice, you can see the three mountains of Echigo, which makes this experience even more exceptional ♬

The program ends at 4:30 pm.
